Looking back at my time in the ITMA program, I have gained so much knowledge and experience that has changed my entire way of looking at training.  I no longer just start developing training and figure out things as I go. I spend a lot more time in the design phase planning what I am going to teach, and how I am going to teach it. I focus on creating training that is transferable to the workplace. My training that I create now is measurable. I now know if people are gaining the knowledge that is being taught. My major task at work now is getting others to change their approach to creating training. I am working directly with them to write learning objectives that are learner centered. I am going through their outlines and helping them focus their material on what the learner needs to know. I am now looking to perform more evaluations on training programs to see how I can make these programs better. I have a greater appreciation for evaluations and I am sharing my knowledge with others. I am fundamentally changing the way training is done where I work because of what I learned in the ITMA program. I am trying different blended learning approaches to see what works and what doesn’t work.

I have learned that creating training is so much more than the material that is being presented. It is about understanding your audience and their needs and finding the best instructional technology to present the training.  My role as an Instructional Technologist isn’t just about creating training, it’s about determining a need and how to address that need. How that need is addressed isn’t always creating a training course either.
